We are excited to announce Dr. Katharine Lasher as the latest member of the Evansville Surgical Associates team. Dr. Lasher earned her bachelor’s in engineering from the University of Southern Indiana, but she always knew she wanted to go to medical school. After a year and a half at Deaconess working as a tech, she went to Indiana University for medical school and completed her residency at East Tennessee State University.
What Dr. Lasher Enjoys Most About Being a Surgeon
Dr. Lasher enjoys the immediate results that come from surgery. Other forms of treatment may only address symptoms and never get to the actual root of the problems someone may be experiencing. With surgery, Dr. Lasher can help her patients see immediate results and resume their normal lives.
“I found in surgery that I could take a problem somebody had and fix it immediately, as opposed to putting a bandaid on it with medication or trying to treat it over months and months.” Dr. Lasher goes on to explain, “The fact that I can do something about the problem is really rewarding for me.”
How She Feels About Joining Evansville Surgical Associates
Dr. Lasher is thrilled to be joining Evansville Surgical Associates with our 50+ years of serving our community and the tri-state area. It’s a homecoming of sorts for her and her husband since they both grew up on the west and north sides of Evansville.
She also knew that she was joining a group that has a lot of experience. Evansville Surgical Associates is a broad-based general surgery practice that allows her to continue growing and establish new skills.
Another benefit of joining our team is the wealth of knowledge our other surgeons have to offer. Their experience will be a great benefit to Dr. Lasher and other surgeons as they join our practice, providing mentorships and partnerships.
Dr. Lasher isn’t the only surgeon whose joining our practice is a homecoming of sorts. Read Introducing Dr. Alex Baronowsky to learn how deep the roots run at Evansville Surgical Associates.
Her Unique Perspectives
All of our surgeons bring their own unique perspectives and expertise to our practice. This diversity only makes us stronger, allowing us to provide you with the best surgical treatment possible. For Dr. Lasher, this results in a focus on treating a variety of complex conditions in the operating room.
Dr. Lasher completed her residency in Johnson City, Tennessee, an area with a complex patient population. In areas that face a combination of disease and illness on top of surgical needs, taking care of patients after surgery can be just as important as the surgery itself.
“My training was based at a university but leaned more towards a community residency program, so it was a mix of academics and community. We got a lot of hands-on surgical training, giving us a very diverse experience that you may not get elsewhere. That was one of the reasons I wanted to go there. I wanted to be able to operate and feel comfortable doing it, and that program set me up for success.”

What Dr. Katharine Lasher Wants Patients to Know About Her
You can always expect an honest answer from Dr. Lasher, but not at the expense of understanding how the prospect of surgery can make patients feel. She understands the importance of balance and will work with you to help ensure the best results while recognizing that getting better can be a long-term process for patients.
Dr. Lasher focuses on being a balanced surgeon for her patients. “You hear about people being super type-A, and that’s the way surgery usually is. I lean more toward the middle of the road in that I want the best for my patients, but I’m flexible enough to know that patients aren’t always going to be able to follow my recommendations to the letter.”
How She Spends Her Free Time
Dr. Lasher is married with twin girls that take up a lot of her free time. They enjoy spending time outside as a family going to parks and the zoo. She loves to cook and is always trying new recipes with her family. When not spending time outdoors, you can find her enjoying crafty activities such as crocheting and needlepoint, as well as reading.
We are thrilled to have Dr. Katharine Lasher as the latest addition to our team. Her experience working with complex cases both in and out of the operating room will prove invaluable to the Evansville, Indiana, community as well as the tri-state area.
