We are thrilled to announce Dr. Alex Baronowsky as the newest addition to the Evansville Surgical Associates team. Dr. Baronowsky graduated with a Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of Southern Indiana in 2008. For his medical degree, he attended the American University of the Caribbean where he graduated in 2014. Dr. Baronowsky did his residency in general surgery at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. To round out his experience, he spent an additional year of fellowship training in surgical critical care.
What Dr. Baronowsky Enjoys Most About Being a Surgeon
For Dr. Baronowsky, the most enjoyable aspect of being a surgeon is making an immediate impact on patients’ lives. His experience with general surgery and critical care allows him to act quickly in a variety of situations.
The thing I like most about being a surgeon is being able to have a fast impact on a patient. We do an operation and a patient gets better faster as opposed to some other specialties and medicine where patients may have more chronic conditions and things that may take a long time to manage. I feel like we get a little more of an immediate gratification in that regard. I really enjoy taking care of some of the sickest surgical patients, which is why I went into surgical critical care. I like being the one to take care of some of the sickest patients in the hospital, quite frankly.
When it comes to the medical field, some of Dr. Baronowsky’s passions are trauma and acute care surgery. Acute care surgery is a growing field that takes the principles of trauma care and applies them in an urgent care setting. This gives him the opportunity to work with a team that provides continuous improvement for patients that are critically ill.
He also has a growing interest in the field of robotically-assisted surgery. Robotically-assisted surgeries help support surgeons performing minimally invasive procedures, which use much smaller incisions than open surgery. It can allow surgeons to use fewer and smaller incisions, as well as reach more difficult areas of the body, including the:
- Stomach
- Colon
- Small intestines
- Esophagus
- Gallbladder
Dr. Baronowsky has some training in both fields, but he wants to grow in those fields as his own surgical career progresses.
How Dr. Baronowsky Feels About Joining Evansville Surgical Associates With Its 50+ Years of Experience
Dr. Baronowsky is thrilled to be joining the Evansville Surgical team. For him, it’s an opportunity to work and grow with a group of world-class surgeons while also serving the community.
I couldn’t have asked for a better place to join. For a new graduate coming out of training, to have the breadth of experience that’s there and the mentorship they offer, is just hard to find…they’ve been so supportive and they recognize the importance of bringing people who are from the area back to the area because patients like that. Patients like their doctors to be like them in a way — to understand where they came from and their culture makes them more comfortable and confident.
Dr. Baronowsky was born just across the river in Henderson, Kentucky. However, he attended high school and received his undergraduate degree in Evansville. Spending these formative years and much of his adult life in Evansville, Indiana has become his home.
Evansville is home to me, and all of my family is here, so I always wanted to come back home and serve the community that basically raised me.
What Dr. Baronowsky Brings to Evansville Surgical Associates That Other Surgeons May Not
One unique aspect of Dr. Baronowsky is the variety of locations that he’s trained and worked in. Experiences such as working in critical care at Orlando Health give him a broader view of both health care as well as the health care system.
From my medical school training all the way through my surgical critical care training, I’ve lived in New York, I’ve lived in West Virginia, I’ve lived in Orlando, Florida. I’ve seen a lot of different health systems, how they do things differently, and incorporate some of them into how I practice here. I think bringing a fresh perspective from other areas of the country is a benefit.
What Dr. Baronowsky Wants Patients to Know About Him
Dr. Baronowsky sees joining Evansville Surgical Associates as the best way to give back to the community that has given so much to him. His way of doing this is by providing the highest quality surgical care possible for his patients.
I’ve always wanted to be here taking care of patients from where I’m from. It’s important to give back to them as much as they gave me growing up and through my life. Without where I came from I never would’ve ended up where I am now. I’d also want them to know that I’m always going to do my best to do what’s right for them.
How Dr. Baronowsky Spends His Free Time
Dr. Baronowsky enjoys golfing and is also a car enthusiast. He and his wife Kat have been married for two years. She is a nurse, and they met during his residency in West Virginia. They have some pets, including a new dog that they adopted upon moving back to Indiana. He enjoys spending time with his family who all live in the nearby area.
We are excited to have Dr. Baronoswky as the newest addition to our team and look forward to his growth as a surgeon. His experience and his passion for the Evansville, IN, community, make him perfect for serving the needs of our patients.
