Important COVID-19 update: Elective Surgeries To Resume Beginning May 4th

  • May 1, 2020
  •  by Alissa McMillan

As per the Governor’s most recent Executive Order regarding surgical services during Covid-19, our Evansville Surgical Associates’ surgeons will resume non-essential surgeries and procedures in a phased manner beginning May 4th at both Deaconess Midtown Hospital and St. Vincent-Evansville.

The phase-in of services will continue to expand over the next several weeks, with a focus on taking all necessary precautions to protect patients, staff, and providers from COVID-19.

What this means for our patients is that all non-emergency surgeries that had been postponed due to Covid-19 restrictions will be permitted to be rescheduled. Surgeries will be scheduled as resources allow and at the discretion of the physician’s medical judgment and hospital leadership.

Our surgeons will continue to monitor hospital systems, processes, and supplies in order to meet this need of all our patients as soon as safely possible. The volume of surgical procedures will be regulated to allow for increased operating room preparations due to COVID-19 infection prevention and sanitation measures.

Please know that you’ll be instructed about any and all precautions that will be in place due to COVID-19, including:

  • Visitor limitations
  • Social distancing requirements
  • Facial mask requirements
  • Health screenings for potential COVID-19 symptoms or exposure

Procedures or surgeries that are intended to diagnose, screen, and treat medical conditions that have the potential for more severe short- or long-term consequences or mortality will be prioritized.

If you had a previously scheduled non-emergency procedure that was postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions, you will be contacted by the physician’s office to reschedule that procedure.

If you had a surgery scheduled and cancelled and have not been contacted within a week or two, feel free to contact us at 812.424.8231.

In the meantime, if you suspect you may have non-emergency symptoms of COVID-19, such as fever, cough, or shortness of breath, please call your primary care physician or the nurse triage line at either Deaconess Midtown Hospital (812-450-6555) or St. Vincent-Evansville (833-978-0649).

If you have an emergency or urgent matter, whether or not you believe it may be related to COVID-19, such as chest pain, significant difficulty breathing, severe pain in your abdomen, trauma from an accident, etc., call 911 immediately.

Please know that our physicians and hospitals are taking every precaution to ensure that any and all procedures can be performed safely with your health in mind. We will continue to assess the overall situation and will provide any updates as necessary.

Thank you for your patience in the midst of this continually evolving situation. With all of us working together to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we look forward to returning to normal hours of operation as soon as possible.

Please do not hesitate to contact us at 812.424.8231 if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
The physicians and staff at Evansville Surgical Associates
