Celebrating 50 Years: How A Simple Idea Grew Into A Wide Network Of Service

  • December 3, 2019
  •  by Alissa McMillan

As we’ve celebrated our 50th Anniversary this year, our surgeons and staff at Evansville Surgical Associates have been reflecting on the changes over half-a-century of serving the Tri-State region with compassion, excellence, and state-of-the-art surgical care.

Evansville Surgical Associates began when 3 surgeons came together in 1969 with the simple idea of combining their practices to form one surgical group. As our community has grown, so have we. Now with 21 surgeons and offices in 10 locations, Evansville Surgical Associates is the largest general surgery practice in the Tri-State region. Our vascular affiliate, Vascular Surgical Associates, is also the largest vascular practice in the region.

What this means for those living in the Tri-State region is that, in almost all cases, they or their loved ones don’t need to travel to Indianapolis, Louisville, or Nashville for exceptional medical care. The best surgical and medical care from around the United States is right here, near home.

Expertise & Excellence

Each of our surgeons is certified by the American Board of Surgery and many of them have additional subspecialty training and certifications in vascular surgery, trauma and critical care, minimally invasive surgery, and Hepatobiliary (HPB) surgery of the liver, pancreas, and gallbladder.

The range of our surgical expertise is our surgeons’ specialties include:

  • Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm
  • Abdominal Surgery
  • Bariatric Surgery
  • Breast Procedures & Surgery
  • Colon-Rectal Surgery
  • Colonoscopy
  • Endoscopy
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Hepatobiliary Surgery
  • Hernias
  • Laparoscopic Surgery
  • Oncological Surgery
  • Pediatric Surgery
  • Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
  • Robotically-Assisted Surgery
  • Spider Vein Laser Treatment
  • Thoracic Surgery

Leadership & Community Involvement

In addition, ESA surgeons direct and staff the two American College of Surgeons Level II Trauma Centers at St. Vincent Evansville Hospital and Deaconess Hospital, providing care for more than 3,000 trauma patients each year.

We also take great pride fulfilling leadership roles both locally and statewide. Many of our surgeons have served as presidents of local hospital staff and as chair of hospital surgery departments. Several surgeons have also served as president of the Indiana Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, the Vanderburgh County Medical Association, and the Indiana State Medical Association.

Just as importantly, our surgeons and our staff members feel passionately about giving back to their communities. We continually lead and participate in health-related events, such as the Evansville Tri-State MORE THAN PINK walk to support those living with metastatic breast cancer and the Colon Screening For Life 5k Run/Walk to raise awareness about colorectal cancer.

Our team is also dedicated to numerous educational initiatives, including Stop The Bleed, texting and driving awareness, and we sponsor scholarships for young people who are interested in a career in nursing or healthcare.

The Future

As we look toward the next 50 years, we remain steadfastly committed to delivering the standard of excellence that we’ve built our reputation on over the past 50 years. We will continue to lead the way in the most state-of-the-art advances in surgical procedures to improve the health of those we serve.

Established in 1969, Evansville Surgical Associates celebrates 50 years of providing leading-edge comprehensive and compassionate surgical care. Learn more about our physicians and our practices by visiting our website, or by calling us at 812.424.8231 or 800.264.8231.
