Since 1969, Evansville Surgical Associates has provided the highest quality of care to our region. What began as a combination of three surgical practices combining into one surgical group has grown into a team of 20+ surgeons working out of nine locations, making us the largest general surgery practice in the tri-state area.
All of our surgeons are certified by the American Board of Surgery, and many have specialized training and certifications in different surgical subspecialties. This allows our team to go beyond general surgery and provide treatment for issues involving the:
- Vascular system
- Colon
- Endocrine system
- Abdominal wall
And that’s just to name a few. Our surgical staff is trained to use laparoscopy, thoracoscopy, and endovascular techniques to perform these procedures. Our team also provides endoscopic services to observe and diagnose issues in the upper digestive tract and colon.

Leaders in the Community
Our surgeons serve in key leadership roles both locally and statewide. Many have served in the role of president of hospital medical staff and as chairpersons of surgery departments. Many of our surgical team have also served as president of the:
- Indiana Chapter of the American College of Surgeons
- Vanderburgh County Medical Association
- Indiana State Medical Association
It’s this high level of leadership that attracts talented surgeons to our region. Dr. Alex Baronowsky is a prime example. He had a desire to work with world-class surgeons who are focused on serving their community. As he puts it:
I couldn’t have asked for a better place to join. For a new graduate coming out of training, to have the breadth of experience that’s there and the mentorship they offer, is just hard to find…they’ve been so supportive and they recognize the importance of bringing people who are from the area back to the area because patients like that. Level II Trauma Centers in Evansville, IN
We are proud to direct and staff the two American College of Surgeons Level II trauma centers in Evansville. Our St. Vincent and Deaconess Midtown facilities provide much-needed trauma care to over 3,000 patients per year. Emergency rooms handle more “general emergencies” such as broken bones, heart attacks, and loss of consciousness.
Trauma centers, on the other hand, focus on more extreme emergencies such as:
- Gunshot wounds
- Major automobile injuries
- Stab wounds
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Blunt trauma
This level of trauma center specializes in providing immediate treatment from a wide-ranging group of specialists. They’re open 24 hours a day and provide continuing education to staff.

Occasionally, a trauma patient may be out of a Level II trauma center’s scope to treat. In this case, the patient would be transported to a Level I trauma center to get the treatment that they desperately need. For our St. Vincent and Deaconess Midtown locations, this means transporting a patient to a Level I trauma center in:
- Indianapolis
- Louisville
- Nashville
- St. Louis
Our patients can have peace of mind knowing that we have two excellent Level II trauma centers in our area, and are surrounded by quality Level I trauma centers in case they need to be sent to one.
