Breast Diseases

All aspects of benign breast conditions and breast cancer are managed by members of ESA who staff two full service Breast Centers, which offer a full range of ultrasound and mammography, including ultrasound and stereotactic breast biopsies and breast MRI.

Surgical procedures include:

  • Lumpectomy - Lumpectomy is the removal of the breast tumor and some of the normal tissue that surrounds it.
  • MammoSite Placement - The MammoSite® Radiation Therapy System received FDA clearance in 2002. MammoSite Targeted Radiation Therapy works from the inside, meaning that a higher daily dose can be used for a shorter period of time – 5 days vs. 5-7 weeks.
  • Mastectomy - There are a variety of types of mastectomy in use, and the type that your surgeon recommends depends on factors such as size, location, and behavior of the tumor and whether or not the patient intends to undergo reconstructive surgery.
  • Sentinel Node Mapping - Sentinel lymph node mapping is a method of determining whether cancer has spread beyond the primary tumor and into the lymph systom. The mapping procedure is used in conjunction with sentinel lymph node biopsy or dissection.

Close cooperation with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and plastic surgeons ensures that each patient receives timely, current and personal attention.
